Hi Everyone,
Today I had a little more energy, which was amazing. Catherine and I did our daily meditation with Jon Kabat-Zinn, and then this afternoon went to High Park where we met Catherine's brothers Paul and Ian, and Paul's partner Abbie (Abbie also teaches at Queen's and we sometimes get to run into each other on campus and have lunch). It was a fabulous walk and it felt great to get out (well, my gut is never entirely happy with movement but every other body part was celebrating). I'm excited to be beginning my upswing days before the next treatment on Thursday.
Thursday was a bad day for my cousin Ellen: she and her partner drove from Peterborough to Sunnybrook in Toronto for her surgery on Thursday and was turned away because they didn't have a bed. We are awaiting another surgery and/or chemo date for her. Hopefully that will be soon.
Much love,
Kip
Hi Kip. I was thinking of you today while sitting in a freezing hockey rink, with my toque, watching Isaac skate on the ice...Ciao.
ReplyDeleteThose Jon Kabat-Zin meditations are so good for health. I remember that you & I talked about his books and meditations. Did you tell me about him first? Remember, when I was sick 8 years ago and took the class that was offered in Kingston? You and Julie came by for a visit? Jon Kabat-Zin is Buddhism without belief-- oops! that's the title of a Stephen Batchelor book, a good one. Kabat-Zin makes so much sense when you are sick.
ReplyDeleteThese chemo dates seem so close together. Leda's are spread out by a month. I guess everyone's treatment is different, isn't it? Karen's surgery is tomorrow. Hope Cousin Ellen gets her treatment very soon. I'm continuing lojong for all of you.
RE the chat about caps: I was wondering what fibre is most comfy because I've heard that any kind of wool can itch, that the softer the yarn the better. Then, too, what colours are best?
Hi Roberta, Catherine here. I was talking to Abbie about this just yesterday, and she suggested that baby cotton (brushed?) would be ideal. Colours? Dark. Butch, you know. Nothing pink. If you can find baby cotton caps in dark colours in adult sizes, I think we market them when we make PMH put a rainbow next to the pink ribbon at the breast clinic. No? Thanks for thinking about this.
